🇲🇳How to Register for the JLPT in Mongolia

JLPT бүртгэл

Mongolia charges a different fee for each level, which almost no other country does. Registration runs through jlpt.mn, operated by the Association of Japanese Language Teachers of Mongolia, and the window is short. In 2026 it lasted a week.

Sittings

July and December in Ulaanbaatar; December only in Arvaikheer and Darkhan

Fee

₮90,000 for N1 and N2, ₮85,000 for N3, and ₮75,000 for N4 and N5. Mongolia prices by level rather than charging one rate for the whole test.

Registration window

For the July 2026 exam on 5 July, registration ran from 23 to 29 March, a seven-day window. Expect something similarly tight in the second half of the year for December.

Official sources

Fees and dates on this page were checked against these sources on 2026-08-09. Both change between sittings, so confirm on the official site before you pay.

Before you register

The Association of Japanese Language Teachers of Mongolia has run the test locally since 2000, and jlpt.mn is where registration happens. Only Ulaanbaatar holds both sittings. Arvaikheer and Darkhan run in December alone, so if you live outside the capital your calendar has one date on it, not two.

Registration Steps

1

Watch jlpt.mn rather than waiting for an announcement

The window in March 2026 was seven days long. That is short enough that hearing about it second-hand is often too late, so check the site directly in the weeks before it opens.

2

Choose your city with the sitting in mind

Ulaanbaatar runs in both July and December. Arvaikheer and Darkhan run only in December. Missing the December window outside the capital means waiting a full year, not six months.

3

Register online and pick your level

Registration is through the portal at jlpt.mn. There are no prerequisites between levels, so you can enter N3 without having sat N4.

4

Pay the fee for your level

₮75,000 for N4 and N5, ₮85,000 for N3, ₮90,000 for N1 and N2. Check the amount against the level you actually selected, since the rate changes between them.

5

Collect your admission ticket

The admission ticket (受験票 / juken-hyō) carries your venue, room and seat number. Print it and bring photo ID that matches your registration. Nobody is admitted without the ticket.

Teacher's Tips

  • The registration window was one week in 2026. Treat it as a deadline you diary in advance rather than one you react to.
  • Outside Ulaanbaatar there is only the December sitting. Plan the year around that if you are in Arvaikheer or Darkhan.
  • Fees differ by level here, so a figure a friend quotes you may simply be for a different level.
